Preparing for A New Year!

It’s hard to believe that 2009 has come to an end.

This has been a year of recovery, revival, yet surprises and upheaval. Still through it all we are still standing and standing tall! That means that there is a great work and triumph ahead for our taking!

As you prepare for next year and set goals, ask yourself, “What has to happen in 2010 for me to say at December 31, 2010 that this has been an INCREDIBLE, WONDERFUL year! Think about it, see what it looks like in your mind’s eye and OWN IT!!! Pick 3 things that you want to accomplish in your professional life and put each on a separate piece of paper.

On each paper, write down for each goal: 1) the people that you need to know, develop a relationship with, or ask for help; 2) the assignments that you need to complete, the information that you need in order to accomplish your goals; 3) the commitment that you need from your boss or your organization.

The key is to develop a detailed strategy for each goal and to put together a QUARTERLY timeline for accomplishing the goal. As I discuss in Chapter 3 of Expect To Win, you MUST put a timeline on each of your goals. If you do not, you will look up and it will be 6 months into the year and you will not be where you want to be professionally.

If your goal is to change jobs, make a commitment that you will complete your resume by January 31st and by March 31st you will have gone on at least 3 interviews, even if they are for practice. The key is to get it moving towards the vision of what will make this year and INCREDIBLE YEAR.

REACH farther than you have every reached before. GO FOR IT!!! You have NOTHING to lose. If you don’t try, you know what the outcome will be, you will be right where you are now. If you go for it, you just might get it and if you EXPECT to get it, if YOU EXPECT TO WIN, YOU WILL!!!!

Happy New Year and here’s to a ROCKING, FABULOUS, WONDERFUL 2010!!!!
